Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Connor Gates has embraced a diverse range of opportunities that have shaped him into the person he is today. From the routines of daily life to the challenges that foster personal growth, each experience has contributed to his confidence and readiness for the many paths ahead.
Connor’s journey began at La Cueva High School, where he first discovered his passion for architecture and interdisciplinary collaboration in an introductory CAD class. This course ignited a new way of thinking, opening doors to possibilities that ultimately propelled him toward higher education. He pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at the University of New Mexico, where he refined his architectural style and explored the ways in which spaces shape human experiences. His undergraduate studies deepened his passion for social engagement, cultural expression, and the representation of ideas in the built environment, inspiring him to push further.
As a Master of Architecture graduate from Carnegie Mellon University, Connor continues to experiment with design across disciplines and mediums, investigating the complex interactions that became focal points of his graduate work. His recent projects reflect a dedication to addressing large-scale challenges within the built environment. Concepts such as transitional design, contextual integration, and the entanglement of architecture with the Anthropocene are central themes in his academic portfolio.
